About the live and dead souls: the Gogol case

Does a classic novel as "Dead Souls" change by the fact that its author N. V. Gogol renounces it, and even burns its final part? To what extent does the work of a writer inscribe in the context of his/her religion? And how should we read Gogol's works in the light of his dying note: Be live, not dead souls. Answers to these, and many other questions, offers the volume Spiritual Prose by N. V. Gogol with which Communitas Foundation presents unknown to the Bulgarian reader works, whch have marked the last period fo the Christian turn of the great writer.
 
Father Bozhidar Marinov is priest at the St. Ivan Rilski church at the Sofia Seminary, where he teaches Liturgyical Science. Between 1997 and 2007 he was a general secretary of the Sofia Seminary. In 2007 he was ordained priest.
 
Assoc. Prof. Lyudmil Dimitrov is a professor at the Department of Russian Literature at the Faculty of Slav Philology of St. Kliment Ohrisdki Sofia University.
 
Tony Nikolov is philosopher and journalist. He specialized at the Pope Institute about the East (Rome) and at the School for Higher Social Sciences (Paris) in the group of prof. Jacques le Goff. He is member of the International Society for Studying the History of the Middle Ages (SIEPM) in Leuven.
