Abstract
The Phytotherapy will most likely exist in the current century by developing itself in the following areas: research of new, untested plants, for their use in medical treatment of serious diseases that for now are virtually incurable by the existing synthetic chemotherapeutics (cancer, AIDS, etc.); isolation of new species and groups of biologically active substances, their pharmacological characterization and use as models for synthesizing homologous series of structural analogues. Phenylethanoid glycosides, are a relatively new group of active substances, found in many plant species and possessing significant pharmacological potential, related to their antioxidant, antibacterial, neuro- and radio- protective, antitumor and others effects.
