Abstract
There are two main approaches for mini-invasive adrenalectomy – retroperitoneal and transabdominal (laparoscopic). The indications for laparoscopic adrenalectomy are benign tumors of the adrenal glands with or without hormonal activity, as well as tumors suspicious for malignancy. The objective of this report is to describe five laparoscopic adrenalectomies, performed in the period October 2008 - June 2009. Three women and two men, aged 47 to 63 years were operated. Indications for operation were benign adenomas of the adrenal gland – two on the right side and three on the left side with dimensions of 6 to 10 cm. Diagnosis was established with CT scan and hormonal check up. The operative time varied from 70 to 110 minutes, 85 minutes mean time. There were no serious intraoperative or postoperative complications. The mean hospital stay was 4 days. All patients were followed up from 3 months to 1 year after the operation. We found no recurrence of the tumor or hormonal activity. In the last 10 years, laparoscopic adrenalectomy has become a gold standard for operation of benign tumors of adrenal glands. Complications and limitations of that technique regarding size of the tumors, are smaller compared to retroperitoneal adrenalectomy.
